Three Albums. Three Number Ones. One Rapper From Streatham.

When The Boy Who Played the Harp debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart in October 2025, Dave became the first UK rapper in history to open three consecutive studio albums at the top of the chart. Psychodrama in 2019. We’re All Alone in This Together in 2021. The Boy Who Played the Harp in 2025. Each one debuted at number one. In February 2026, the album’s single “Raindance” featuring Tems reached number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100, his first ever entry on the American chart. At the 2026 Brit Awards, Dave won Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act. The run is not a coincidence. It is a body of work.

Who Dave Is

David Orobosa Michael Omoregie was born June 5, 1998 in Streatham, South London. His parents are from Nigeria. His two older brothers served time in prison, and one of them, Christophe, inspired the themes at the center of Psychodrama. When his mother fled with his brothers fearing deportation, Dave was not reunited with her for three months. That experience of family separation runs through his music from his earliest freestyles to his most recent album. Drake premiered a remix of Dave’s song “Wanna Know” on OVO Sound Radio in 2016, before Dave had an album. It was one of the earliest signals from outside the UK that something was happening in Streatham.

The Boy Who Played the Harp

The Boy Who Played the Harp released October 24, 2025 via Neighbourhood Recordings. It is Dave’s third studio album and his shortest at 47 minutes and 43 seconds. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart with approximately 74,000 units in its first week. Critics described it as a concept album in the tradition of Psychodrama, with heavy gospel influence layered into the production. “Raindance” featuring Tems arrived as the lead single and eventually reached number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 2026. The album was nominated for British Album of the Year at the 2026 Brit Awards. Dave also appeared on James Blake‘s 2026 album Trying Times on the track “Doesn’t Just Happen.”

Why Dave Operates Differently

Most UK rappers who cross into mainstream success do so by softening their sound or adopting an American cadence. Dave did neither. Psychodrama was 11 tracks about institutional racism, the criminal justice system, mental health, and his brothers’ prison sentences. It won the Mercury Prize in 2019 and the Brit Award for Album of the Year in 2020. We’re All Alone in This Together deepened the same themes. The Boy Who Played the Harp continues the same practice: long-form rap storytelling built on personal experience, literary references, and production that does not chase what is trending elsewhere. The Billboard Hot 100 entry with Tems is not Dave changing his approach for an American audience. It is the American market finally catching up.

UK Rap in 2026

The UK rap scene Dave helped legitimize internationally is in one of its strongest moments. Central Cee released All Roads Lead Home in March 2026. GRM Daily‘s Daily Duppy format continues producing breakthrough moments. Dave won Best Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Act at the 2026 Brit Awards against a deep shortlist. The genre that started in garages and council estates in South London now produces artists who debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and collaborate with Tems, who also appears on J. Cole‘s final album that same year.

HIPHOPADELLIC Perspective

Three number-one albums in a row is a commercial fact. What it represents is something else. Dave has spent a decade making rap albums about his brothers in prison, his mother’s fear of deportation, institutional racism in Britain, and the weight of growing up in Streatham with a target on your back. None of that softened as the chart positions climbed. The Boy Who Played the Harp sounds like an artist who reached the top of his country’s charts without changing a single thing about what he decided to say. That is rarer than the number one slots suggest. The algorithm did not find Dave. Dave outlasted the algorithm.

One Love. One Family. One Culture.
